Closing the Gap: Aligning People Programs with Business Performance
This week Wondersource hosted a live webinar: Aligning People Programs with Performance.
Here’s a summary of what we discussed. Burnout, stress, and disengagement aren’t just personal challenges—they’re costly business risks. Today, 74% of employees report poor mental health at work, yet over 60% of workplaces still don’t fully support mental wellbeing. The result? Productivity suffers, turnover soars, and company culture erodes—with an estimated annual burnout cost of $4,000 to $21,000 per employee. So for a company with 1000 employees that’s over $5 million in annual losses. attributed to burnout alone.
At Wondersource, we know the true competitive edge isn’t just in tighter KPIs or more tech—it’s in building mentally fit, confident, and resilient teams aligned with business goals. The companies of tomorrow will be those who invest strategically in their people’s wellbeing, soft skills, and emotional intelligence.
Myths Holding Companies Back
Our webinar busts four common myths:
Myth 1: Mental health doesn’t impact revenue. Truth: Firms prioritizing wellbeing see higher productivity, engagement, and profits.
Myth 2: Employees don’t care about wellness. Truth: 90% of workers want mental health support; stigma remains the barrier.
Myth 3: Scaling wellbeing is too hard. Truth: Effective programs focus on nervous system health, subconscious rewiring, and emotional skills.
Myth 4: AI alone boosts productivity. Truth: Mental fitness and leadership are essential to harness AI successfully.
How to Amplify Impact
Closing the gap requires:
Deep, science-backed support for mental fitness and emotional regulation. Solutions must recognise the mind-body connection and cover the deeper layers of the nervous system, subconscious programming and emotional intelligence to empower people and make a meaningful difference.
Investment in “power skills” like communication, empathy, and problem-solving. HBR research shows soft skills are now more important than ever. As technical complexity rises, the glue that keeps teams productive isn’t more hard skills—it’s: communication, empathy, conflict resolution, collaboration, critical thinking and problem solving
Cultivation of psychological safety that empowers risk-taking and trust. In 2012, Google launched Project Aristotle. The goal: identify the factors that separate average teams from exceptional ones. At the heart of the study was one key discovery: psychological safety is the single most critical factor in team success and is statistically correlated with performance, collaboration, and innovation. Amy Edmondson, Ph.D: Psychological safety is a shared belief among employees that they can take risks, share opinions and be themselves in the workplace without potential negative retribution, such as having their competence questioned, being criticized or becoming involved in non-constructive conflicts. The cornerstone of any successful wellbeing program is psychological safety. Begins with leadership modelling healthy practices and demonstrating empathy.
Leadership development for bold, confident decision-making amid uncertainty. AI is advancing fast and it’s raising the bar for leadership. According to McKinsey research, leaders must advance boldly today to avoid becoming uncompetitive tomorrow. The reason companies aren’t getting the most out of AI investments is because leaders aren’t moving boldly enough. This means we need to develop leaders’ self-trust, confidence, resilience, emotional intelligence, focus on empowering people, not just deploying tools and more.
Data-driven measurement and continuous improvement. Only 1-2% of organisations are using wellbeing data to measure ROI on wellbeing initiatives (Deloitte). To achieve the positive outcomes in wellbeing, we want to understand the current state of workforce’s wellbeing, how initiatives are performing, and what can improve. “If you treasure it, measure it.”
Wondersource’s Empowered Intelligence Platform™ delivers scalable, practical tools—daily mindfulness, hypnosis, yoga nidra, coaching, and soft skills training—that equip workforces to thrive. Companies using these tools report improved leadership confidence, engagement, and retention.
