Your Best Q4 Starts With Your People

Think of your most decisive person. Under normal conditions, they call it fast and move on.

Now picture them two months into Q4. Deadlines are tighter. Priorities are shifting weekly. Suddenly they're second-guessing calls they used to make on instinct.

They haven't gotten less capable. This is what happens when pressure builds without the support to process it. Some people overthink. Others overwork, avoid the hard conversation, or lose their self-trust and go quiet. It's easy to miss, because everyone's still showing up and getting the work done.

This session is about what's actually happening underneath — why capable people lose access to skills and confidence they already have, and what leaders can do before it costs them.

The Cost Starts Before Burnout

Burnout is the point where it's obvious. Before that, people are still working, still hitting deadlines, but slower and with less in the tank. Decisions take longer than they should. Problems get noticed later than they should. Leaders become more reactive. Fear becomes the default. People stop leading themselves.

Pressure isn't the actual problem. The problem is stress and emotions that never get processed. They don't go away on their own — they build up over time, and eventually there's less capacity left to handle the next thing that comes up. That's when it starts affecting execution, communication, and whether people flag a problem early or sit on it.

Why Capable People Get Stuck Under Pressure

Under pressure, people default to coping patterns — overthinking, controlling, avoiding, overworking, shutting down, shrinking their power. That's not a character flaw. It's just the pattern that's familiar.

Most training doesn't address this because knowing what to do and being able to do it under pressure are different things. People can know how to communicate effectively but shrink themselves in the meeting if they don't have all the answers. They can be confident but overthink because they haven't yet learned they could be safe internally even in uncertainty. The knowledge is there. What's missing is access to it, right when it counts.

Most people are carrying more limitation than they realise, learned so early they mistake it for who they are. The moment someone sees the pattern instead of being run by it, they can start to change it.

Building More Choice

Under pressure, someone who catches themselves overthinking can land in their body and make the call instead of doubting themselves and circling it on repeat. Someone who catches themselves shutting down and hiding, can stay in the room instead of checking out.

More choice means more access to who you already are underneath the pressure.

The goal is to help people recognise their patterns sooner and have more options for how they respond:

  • Bracing → Receiving

  • Proving, earning, striving → Trusting

  • High-functional survival → Grounded self-leadership

  • Hyper-productivity → Focused, intentional work that moves the needle

  • Burnout driven achievement → Sustainable expansion and success

What We’ll Cover in This 45-Minute Session

1. What pressure actually does to performance — the effects on attention, decisions and behaviour that aren't always obvious

2. The patterns that show up under pressure — and what's happening underneath them

3. The gap between knowing and doing — why training alone doesn't change behaviour under stakes

4. Four capabilities that create more choice — Awareness, Flexibility, Self-Leadership, Recovery

5. A practical reset — a short body-based practice for high-pressure moments

Meet Your Host

Michelle Velan
Founder & CEO, Wondersource

Michelle works at the intersection of executive leadership, psychology, neuroscience and somatic practices.

After experiencing the effects of sustained pressure herself while working as a VP of Sales in a fast-growing AI company, she became interested in what sits underneath behaviour — and why traditional approaches don't always create lasting change.

Today, she brings that perspective to Wondersource: helping organisations develop the human capabilities that allow people to navigate pressure, change and growth more effectively.

Why Now?

Burnout is expensive. On average, it costs companies with 1000 employees $5 million each year (Journal of Preventative Medicine).

Whatever's already showing up on your team is about to get louder. Q4 doesn't create new problems — it turns the volume up on the ones you've got.

You don't need to wait for burnout to act. You just need 45 minutes to see what's actually possible on the other side of the pressure your people are carrying.
